So, I thought I would finally try something with TNT. I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to build an old civil war style cannon and attach a TNT cannon to it and give the appearance of the cannon actually firing? Here is my first go. Check out how far the TNT shoots out of the cannon for this epic MC cannon Fail.
I have added one of these in some fashion to every world I have started. It is a simple build though doing in survival can add a new element of challenge. It makes a simple and quick way to go up and down different levels in your world. ….. much faster than ladders. I have used them to enter a high rise structure as well as moving from top to my strip mines.

Well, just wrapped up month 4 of streaming. here are the numbers to show successes month over month. I do still enjoy it. I do however find myself tiring over the drama of Minecraft. I still find the game intriguing. I enjoy all aspects of the game and how each day I find new cool things to do in it. The prospect of learning to automate things within the game is very interesting to me. I have found that having a good stable group of folks to play with makes it less stressful. Yes, I said it stressful. On some days it almost feels like I am babysitting when new folks jump in the game and I have to monitor that they do not screw with the long time residents of Dartopia. Ha. Yes, the woes of ruling a Minecraft world.
I had to take a week off from streaming to work with our business. I believe that hurt my growth. Goes to prove you can’t grow followers by not streaming. I know, right Captain Obvious? here are my numbers. I post these because I can’t seem to find anywhere to compare so thought I would put mine out there for comparison.
This month I am starting with numbers first. A month ago, I sat at 44 followers and 768 views with 256 hours of streaming. I am still enjoying it. I have found a special part in that tiny heart of mine for Minecraft. Now, I have increased that 44 followers to 86, the 768 views to 919 and the 256 hours to 379. I really does seem there is not definite formula for gaining followers.
I have still been streaming mainly Minecraft. I would say that some titles I give my streams get more views. It could be coincidence. I have met a lot of good people through the chats but also get the occasional trolls. Annoying as they can be, I don’t get into arguments with them. Occasionally I will time them out in the chat if they get too out of hand. Mostly I just welcome them in. I thank them for joining my chat and let them know it is my way of helping the rest of the twitch community by keeping them off their chat.
My schedule has been a bit erratic the last couple weeks. From having friends come into town, my job being crazy busy, needs of our business as well as family things that have come up, it has been a crazy couple weeks. I thank all of you that read this and follow my stream for your patience with that. I wish this could be a job that could support me but as it is not, the things that do pay have to take priority.
As in prior streaming posts, here are things that I have learned in the past month.
1. Playing Minecraft has taught me that you really need to be careful who you can trust. I had to ban a couple folks that had been in ‘Dartopia’ for some time because they were caught griefing and stealing.
2. Don’t go exploring without a map and compass – Thanks Master and Optic
3. Politely tell squeakers not to take offense if you leave the party and start and ‘adult’ party. Yes, I do have the DartNtheHead ‘kiddie’ table just like Christmas’s at grandmas.
4. Monitor your stream. XBONE Kinnect has been doing random ZOOM shots. Only once was it my crotch. Luckily I did not have any viewers at that time. I do constantly have to readjust when it zooms in on my chin or forehead.
So, I have been playing and streaming Minecraft for about 6 weeks now. Yes, I am in my 40’s (I assure you I am not the only middle-aged person playing the game). For whatever reason, have found enjoyment in the game. I find the challenge of creating something out of square blocks.
Here is my first project in creative mode. I am hoping to use my version of the Roman Colosseum as the site for build-offs in future streams. I am hoping that this shows that Minecraft isn’t child’s play only!! 🙂
What does this summer mean to me? The addition of guest stars Ice Tea and Otter Pops to my streams.
Reviewing my last post on streaming, I noticed that was right about a month ago. Thought I would do a monthly update. I am at 256 hours streaming. Summer is a busy time for us so I think I kicked back my hours some. I also decided to try to cut back one day of not streaming. I don’t think this affected my follows. I almost doubled my followers from 22 to 44…trying to inch my way to 50. I think the reduction of streaming hours has affected my total views, however. My views jumped from just over 500 views to 768. I started playing Minecraft and streaming it. Seemed it was getting harder to find matches in BF4 and COD. Cant wait until the next game. If anyone has something they would like to see me stream, let me know.
In the interest to keep things consistent, here are a few notes of things I may have learned from my post.
Make games invite only – Had a grief-er in Minecraft that tore shit up. He was a friend of a friend.
Lock parties to invite only
I have my stream marked adult do to language and alcohol
I limit squeakers to party chat. I am starting a rule that party chat is limited to adults as best as possible. If I do let them join, I make sure it is ok with others in the party.
I learned that squeaker is a young’n
Some nights you get no views, some night you only average about 5-7, some nights you can have up to 10-15. There is no consistency when first starting out. More often than none, you still have no one to talk to.
Not having the best equipment to stream and make it appear more professional
What games to play. There is a lull in good XBONE games right now.
Balance between Family, Job, Business and streaming. Remember gaming and streaming are my hobby.
Well, that is about it for now. Looking forward to my Month 3 update.
So, lately I have been streaming Minecraft. I have had folks come in and want to build. I have no problem with that. Well, until recently. I had an individual come in and start robbing stuff out of crates. He would then take that stuff to create things to destroy others creations. He started one persons would house on fire. He filled another home with water. He stole all my valuables and proceeded to blow up one of my “homes”. Thus, The Average Dudes Dick Award is born. Just don’t take this as an opportunity to best him and come destroy something in my Minecraft world hoping to get on the list. That would probably just get you destroyed, kicked from the game and result in my closing my world to any guests. Here is the video evidence as to why this individual is officially seen as a dick in my eyes.
